Module 8 Activity 8 - Managing Online Communication and Collaboration



Social networking has definitely revolutionized the way students communicate and has further connected more and more teachers.  Social networking presents a huge opportunity for schools to connect with students while ensuring that it is done in a pedagogical way.  All school staff has a duty to ensure that students using ICT, in any context, are reminded about appropriate behaviour on a regular basis.  Collaborative learning, online group work allows students to become more active participants in the learning process.

Module 9: Activity 6 - Models & Stages of Technology Change

Planning is excellent - it is definitely key to understanding this activity. At my school I believe that we are in the Adaptation Stage which allows technology to becom thoroughly integrated into teaching patterns. This is when our teachers are most often excited about using technology to prepare and present information.  However, policies and leadership must set the stage so that adherence to what is being done is maintained.   Collaboration and mentoring are critical at this stage and is needed to guide the process along smoothly.  Individuals can become complacent at this stage and need little reminders of the big picture. Module 1b-3 Activity 2/Assignment 1 - Two generations of teachers, differences in attitude towards ICT

I would have stated as fact that most if not all older teachers were resistant to the introduction of ICT in schools.  However, after completing the reading I am more aware that the statement is false.  The greatest resistance to ICT introduction or integration does not come because of age but rather as a result of the lack of knowledge and improper training.  It was determined that teachers exhibited different attitudes because some were fearful, indifferent or doubtful.  On the other hand some teachers were very excited and filled with enthusiasm.
